Return

The subject matter of the painting is due to two impressions. The first is the echo of the impression produced by the song of Martha "The Young one has walked through the -woods" from Mussorgsky's opera "Khovantchina". The second impression is the deeply felt image of Navna from the book by D.Andreev "The Rose of the World". Navna is the bride of Christ, God has chosen her. She is somehow fleeting above the earth, not touching it. She is so slender that the dandelions remains sane when she touches them. Navna is the fullness of Soul, the collective Soul of the Russian people. She has just escaped from the claws of demonic forces, her eyes are full of compassion and of deepest devotion to the cause of Divine Providence.
